Patching Parking Lots & Driveways
As asphalt ages, it will require repairs to maximize the life of the remaining pavement. Patching dangerous potholes, sunken catch basins, broken, heaved, or alligatored areas is essential to the maintenance of your pavement. The type of patching is determined by the cause of the failure and the service it is intended to provide.

Conventional Patching (long term solution)

Cut out problem area to sub-base
•Repair sub-base as needed & compact
•Install & compact 2 inches of hot bituminous binder course
•Install & compact 1 inch of hot bituminous concrete per MDPW specification, type & class to meet the elevation of existing pavement
•Seal the paving joint

Overlay Problem Area (temporary solution)

•Key cut around the perimeter of the area to be patched
•Clean & hand apply Tack to the area being overlayed
•Install & compact bituminous concrete over the problem area
•Seal the joints
•Temporary fix – the problem will reoccur over time

Infrared Patching

•Method of blending new and existing asphalt
•Creates joint free patch • Good for correcting low areas in pavement
•Not recommended for seriously damaged areas

Polypatch & Mastics

•Designed for patching large cracks & distressed pavement
•Hot applied, self-adhesive modified binder containing selective aggregates
•Ensures load bearing & skid resistant characteristics
